I wasn’t surprised when I checked up the google trends today and saw Shahid-Mira being searched for in the top lists of searches in India. And let me add, it was no big guess that the region of Haryana-Delhi was searching for it the most!
When was the last time Delhi went crazy for a celebrity wedding? After all, it isn’t every day that our own Gurgaon, our own Trident and Oberoi Hotel at the notorious shankar chowk gets this famous?
I mean, we cross that place every single day, cribbing about the traffic. How many times have we attended that wedding near Chattarpur farms and vowed never to visit that place again because of the long traffic jams! That area is so bad, that one needs to keep an hour extra for just being stuck inside the bumper to bumper journey.
And here are these two places- Shankar Chowk & Chattarpur Farms, being re-looked at by a whole new lens. My heart literally goes out to all those people (including Shahid) who would have had to cross these two destinations in the rain stuck Delhi.
Shahid selecting a Delhi college girl as his wife, has uplifted the morale of so many college going girls in Delhi. They needn’t shift to Mumbai now to get hitched to a celebrity now. Most of them have started attending all satsangs with their parents, just in case Varun Dhawan’s parents also decide to select a bride through these channels.
Jokes apart, this craze for celebrity weddings shows us something about us as a society. We all keep cribbing about the unnecessary media attention these things get, but secretly spent time seeing the designer wear, the menu, the guest list and reading all articles on it.

You google Arpita Khan wedding and you get 5,96,000 results !!! Keep going till page 7/8/9 and you will still keep finding articles on the lavish wedding. Supply equals demand- we were crazy as audiences and wanted to just keep reading and seeing pictures of this star studded family!
Abhishek-Aishwarya wedding throws a whopping 10,30,000 results! Imagine being talked about 10 lakh times!! Wasn’t it one of the BIG weddings of that media even covered the entire Baraat route for our hungry-for-more eyes?
Kareena-Saif wedding gives 7,97,000 results and Rani Mukherjee wedding also gets more than 7,00,000 results.
The new wedding on the news-Minissha Lamba’s is also racing up the Google Trends for the day!
We are a society that is star-struck and we love reading about them. High time we accept it, and stop hiding behind our social media masks to say how tacky it is to check out what Genelia wore for her wedding!
The Indian Celebrity Industry is our daily gossip fodder. We love reading the gossip and sharing our views on them. May their tribe grow, and may they keep choosing Delhi as their wedding destination! No more would I be cursing Shankar Chowk anymore- it has brought us on national/international pages and Delhi-ites are proud of that!
