Can you help solve this Maths mystery?

Mathematics has not been a favourite subject for most of us in school. We have always wondered, and sometimes still do, why we learnt what we did!

After all these years, I realised the deeper meaning of Maths and have got stuck into solving a Maths mystery. Was maths formed only to solve numbers? Is there a deeper co-relation between Maths & Human Behaviour? The fun maths, the maths games and tricks, the maths puzzles- could they have all missed this maths mystery?

I am sure you all remember this:

+ + = +
+ = –
+ = –
 – = +

These are the principles with which we have solved all number queries till now. However, try and picture this formula into human behaviours.

  1. When two positive people, is the result positive?
  2. When two negative people meet, is the result positive?
  3. When one negative meets a positive, is the result negative?

Basis your life experiences, you may want to give a Yes or a No to these 3 questions. My response to these questions is 1.Yes 2. No 3. Maybe

Am I just being stupid here, or is there actually some logic there? Science remains true in all cases. So if mathematics is a science, then something that holds true for numbers, should be true to humans?

So, I look at real life examples and dig out this to prove my hypothesis:

  1. Two like-minded friends (positives) come together and open a business: result is positive
  2. Two thieves (negative) come together to do a larger loot: result positive for them
  3. One religious believer (positive) meets a fake guru (negative), result is cheating (negative)
  4. A demanding boss (negative) makes the life of hardworking employee (positive) miserable (negative)
  5. Someone who is taking bribe (negative) from the one giving him (negative) gets his work done (positive)
  6. A nasty mother-in-law (negative) makes her happy daughter-in-law (positive) leave house (negative)

Hence Proved?

This is an interesting one, and I can’t reach this conclusion on my own. Let’s play this game now and let’s become part of a larger human behaviour research. For any interactions that you see in your life, look at them from this angle and come back here to write whether this maths formulae holds true for human beings or not.

After all, there has to be a reason why we studied Maths, and if someone missed this critical human behaviour angle from it, then it’s time for us to solve this!

Looking forward to your help!
