We are a beach loving family, and after having explored most of the beach destinations of India, we wanted to see something new. Google search helped and we chanced upon this placed called Mandarmoni. It is around 170 kms/4 hours from Kolkatta airport and a not-so-explored beach destination.
Also known as the longest driveable beach in India, it is one of the cleanest beaches we have been to. Here are a few reasons why Mandarmoni is the best beach for families.
Accessible Water sports: There are a lot of water sports activities available in the beach, which is 2 mins walking distance from your room. Jet skiing, speed boat, banana boat, para sailing etc. And the best part is they allow kids in most of these rides. So in case you have an adventurous kid with you, it would be an amazing family time.
Red Crabs: The beach is like a carpet of red crabs. And the good thing is that they are on one end of the beach. So, you can continue playing and swimming in the beach without any worry. When you feel like seeing the crabs, go to the other side, have a look at them, click pictures and return!
Shacks: The beach has also small shops selling coconut water, toys and beach wear. You could just sit there with your book and enjoy the sea breeze.
Choice of economical resorts: There are many resorts to choose from. However, going by the Trip Advisor ratings, we booked ourselves in Rose Valley (Suncity Resort). The best part was the package deal. Rs. 15,000 for 2 nights for sea-facing room, all meals included, taxes included and access to all resort facilities. It was one of the least amounts of money we would have ever spent on a holiday!
Food: Bengali food is world famous. And this place won’t disappoint. If you are a fish fan, then you can savour some of the best fish preparations here. Vegetarian dishes would also leave a definite mark on your taste buds. And it’s not only about the resort, even en-route to the place, we had real good food.
Array of activities: Now this one is a special thing of this resort. They have arranged for so many things to do that one can never get bored. Clean swimming pools- for both adults and kids; Play area with a lot of rides-toy trains, swings, slides; Water Park; boat rides; ropeway; toy train; musical fountain; indoor games like badminton/volleyball. You name it, you have it there!
Mandarmoni as a tourist destination is just coming up. The roads have very recently become accessible and hence not many people living in Kolkatta itself would have experienced the beach by now. The advantage is the cleanliness and the private space one gets.
However, on the flip side, the place needs to do a lot of catching up with its serviceability. The whole orientation of hospitality and customer service is missing.
To sum up, definitely a recommended place for all beach lovers, especially if you are looking for a kid friendly destination. It will take care of needs of all your family members!
