Who is the most benevolent & forgiving being you know?

God; known by many names, known to exist in many forms, omnipresent. All the religions agree that he is the ‘All Mighty’ synonymous with benevolence, forgiveness, protection, wisdom and most importantly unconditional love for all. Followers of many religions believe in the occurrence and existence of avatars throughout time. The All Mighty taking the form of someone or something for the betterment and protection of humanity from prevailing evil. Needless to say, the avatars have been documented to have existed in various shapes and sizes.

But what about the last few centuries or so? It is viewed as the most evil-dense time on Earth where evil exists everywhere. So much so a part of everyday life that no one pays any heed to it. This got me wondering about what forms of avatars existed or still exist during this time. There have been many a great personality who have done so much good for humanity that they could have been avatars. But something kept nagging me in some neglected corner of my brain. I couldn’t shake the feeling that to counter the effects of evil that is so intricately entwined in our lives there should be someone who is everywhere, anywhere, all the time and anytime.

Then one day like a flash it came to me! I have someone benevolent, forgiving, protective, wise and ever loving in my life. Right in front of our noses, being a part of our lives for centuries, silently and slowly but surely counteracting the evil around us with the goodness inside them.

It is so simple, beautiful and effective that it has to be God’s work. Someone who is benevolent, forgiving, protective, wise and most importantly loves unconditionally. Come to think of it, the avatar is just a part of God, made from ‘God’ literally. Just rearrange ‘God’ and we get ‘Dog’! That’s it! Just sprinkle a little dog here and there and see the positivity they bring with them.

They are benevolent enough to share their toys and bed with you. If that’s not enough they’d jump in the river or a burning building to rescue you. Dogs continuously save humans they know but sometimes complete strangers as well. It’s almost like they cannot bear to see good people in pain. This is one of the reasons why they make such good companions for people with mentally or physically disabilities or sick humans.

How often can we forgive someone instantly after being wrongly accused of something? Even after being berated for ten minutes for rendering my grandma’s slippers into shreds, my dog was still wagging his tail when I looked at him. And then I got to know he wasn’t the culprit. I felt very ashamed of myself and didn’t think that just an apology was enough. But I just had to call him in a happy voice and that blessed avatar didn’t even want my apology. He was straight on me, as excited as ever, wanting to play with me.

They will bark, they will throw a fit they will push you if need be but they will protect you. The internet is full of stories where dogs have saved humans from snakes, burglars, natural disasters, heart attacks and more. With their keen sense of hearing and smell they are your personal security systems.

It took three sittings of five minutes each to teach my dog certain basic instructions like to wait and start eating when he’s told to or not to enter the kitchen or not to touch certain stuff around the house. My two-year-old human still cannot follow them. Who is smarter? Dogs can be taught to dance, find explosives or drugs, be companions to people in need and how to call for help. They understand your anger and pain. They know just the tactics to wrap you around their fingers and get extra treats. Since they can’t use words like we do, they develop a body language to make you understand very clearly what they want. It is only wise to say that don’t be foolish enough to underestimate their acumen.

Dogs love you for life based on nothing. Whatever and whoever you are means nothing to them. You can be a monster but your dog will love you and care for you. You don’t need to lie or dress up or wear make-up. They love you for feeding them even if it is a small meal of just some rice. They are sad when you are not around even if you don’t think about them the whole time you are away from them. Seeing you come back to them is the highlight of their day. A chance to play with you or a pat from you are their short-term goals. The gloomiest and the most depressing times can brighten up just by their goofy smiles. They live to be around you to share the immense amount of love and kindness in their hearts with you.

Their eyes say it all. They are exuding with love, affection, intelligence and kindness. Some researchers say that just by making an eye contact with dogs we have an increase in the hormone oxytocin which plays an important role in bonding and trust. Usually this kind of attachment-forming response occurs between parents and children or romantic partners. They take the meaning of unconditional love to a whole new level.

A salute to these avatars for filling our lives with love and positivity!

  1. Absolutely amazing narrative, leaves you smiling and pondering on the ingenuity of thoughts!

  2. Very well articulated. There are obvious things around us but we ignore them or take them for granted. At many times we take the negativity over positivity. If we look more closely to our lives there is positivity, there is unconditional love, there is happiness.

    Keep writing Aventika.

  3. Amazing read. I could relate to so many of the things here. The kind of unconditional love animals do no one can match. It might appear that it might be just for food but I remember the which I had, she used to stop eating even her most favorite food whenever my mom goes out of station. Overall very nicely written piece, keep it up.
