How frustrating it is to keep waiting for something to happen! I mean, why we can’t just know if it’s happening or not. We would eventually be showing emotions when that thing happens as per its due date, then why can’t we feel the same emotion today? Why do we have to go through the grind of waiting, thinking, stressing, anxiety, depression, curiosity etc.?
Will you get that job?
Will you get pregnant?
Will you be able to buy that house?
Will you pass that exam?
Will you get admission in that college?
Will your marriage last?
Will I be successful in this?
We keep thinking about these questions all the time, our mind is constantly running around seeking answers. We pay stupid amounts of money to astrologers asking them to predict for us, the trap just keeps getting deeper with all the ornaments and the pujas. We get into meditation because the curiosity just starts killing us. We move into depression because we can’t see the “goodness” in the recent setback of our life.
Why couldn’t life be just plain simple with us being given complete charge of knowing what’s next!
While we do the goal setting at corporates, we define very clearly that this is what you get at the end of the year, if this is what you achieve. Targets are clear & specific and hence our achievement is clear and known. Nobody stands up & demands for more bonus, if they have not achieved their targets.
Similarly, I need to know what is it that I am striving for every single day. The efforts done today, the minutes wasted today, the investments made today, are they going to give me something? Is it for something tangible?
I am done with hearing that I am getting experiences. I don’t want to gain experiences, and learn from my mistakes, and pick up myself every single time I fall down. I demand to know my tomorrow, to be able to plan my today! It’s simple and logical. Some people say they find it exciting not knowing what’s going to happen. I say, I find that stupid. It’s a bare minimum of human existence-my right to know the future, my failures and my achievements.
But alas, this wouldn’t ever happen. We are supposed to live in the mystery of the unknown. To keep thinking and worrying; to be so irritated without the knowledge of tomorrow, that we spoil our today. Philosophers say be happy today, because tomorrow is not in your control. That’s a defeatist attitude I say. Just because you can’t do anything about it, you try convincing people to start looking at today.
On one side, you want your child to be visionary, to have long term plans and make impacts and on the other side you tell him to stay happy today. A visionary can never be happy today, till he achieves his vision. Each of us have a role to play in this world, tell us clearly what it is- why put us in the puzzle of finding it on our own?
Dear Creator, just to put on record, I don’t enjoy this game of yours. I can’t stop thinking of the zillions of seconds I have wasted on thinking about the future, imagine if that time would have been spent in actually making myself ready for something I know is going to happen next!
My first open letter –to the One above!
