Here’s why Twitter is the best place to be!

India has 108.9 million Facebook users, whereas Twitter has only around 22 million users. It is strange that for some weird reasons the definition of social media for most of us Indians start with Face Book and end with WhatsApp (more than 70 million users there).

I had written about why Facebook doesn’t make much sense to us anymore a few weeks back. To add to what I wrote in that post, the long emotional stories of family loss/distress/inhumanity etc. that keep floating on Facebook timeline is actually not worth my time and emotions. Yes, I am sorry this has happened to you, but what could I do other than feeling sorry? And it isn’t as if I believed that world was all good with no troubles at all and your posts make me see the reality! Come on! I face that world every single day and rather than reading those sad stories, I would prefer to have directed, meaningful information thrown at me. Information that I can use, that makes sense and that doesn’t make me feel sad all the time.

twinkle aliaTwitter is a lot of fun and a platform full of content. It’s enjoyable to follow all the Bollywood/TV /Political celebrities and read what they are speaking, where they are travelling, what they are wearing etc. The icing on the cake becomes when two celebrities actually chat with each other on Twitter. All your newspaper entertainment journalists only feed in their newspapers with these Twitter confessions or conversations; so why wait for them to give you a second hand news, log on to Twitter and read the tweets live and as & when they happen.

Most often people just see the celebrity angle to it whereas, there is this whole wide community of knowledge anand mahindra twitterproviders who are keen to share their content with you, real time and fast. All the news channels, local, national, international are on twitter and they update news and updates there as well. Then there are the powerful content providers like Forbes, Harvard Publishing, and Gallup etc. whose latest articles/research is constantly updated on twitter. You also wouldn’t want to miss some of the CEOs and CXOs sharing their business updates, life perspectives with you on a daily basis.

twitter forbesTwitter is short, it’s sweet and is very relevant to what you want to read and share. It’s not your personal network (aka FB) or your professional (aka LinkedIn) but is your knowledge network. So if you keen to learn and grow; if you like knowing what’s happening around you, then Twitter is the place for you. Don’t waste your time scrolling up & down your Facebook timeline- spend that time on reading news feed on Twitter and you would be doing yourself a favour.

barkha dutt twitter chatPersonally, I have had chats with Rajdeep Sardesai, Barkha Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Gaurav Kapur, Suhel Seth, Dia Mirza and Shashi Tharoor through Twitter and the accessibility is just mind blowing. Even if they don’t always reply to your tweets, they do read it. And that I can say from experience.

So, dear friends, Twitter is the best social media platforms for you; so go get the bird icon from the back of your phone screens to your first screen. It deserves a lot more of your time & attention.
